Open Public Record Act:
The Tennessee Open Records Act grants all individuals the right to inspect and obtain copies of public records. These are all documentary materials such as letters, maps, photographs, microfilms, and electronic files that are in the possession of state and local governmental bodies. However, certain records such as criminal investigation records, records that contain personal information, and personnel records are not open to the public.
Birth Records:
The Tennessee Vital Records Office handles requests for copies of certified birth records. You can obtain a copy in person by submitting a request form and proof of identity at the Customer Service Window or using one of the kiosks. You can also obtain copies by mail or online through a third party vendor, VitalChek.
The cost of a birth certificate is $15 for the 1st copy and $15 for each additional copy. Requests made in person can be paid using cash, check, credit/debit cards, or money orders, Mailed requests must be paid by check or money order made payable to Tennessee Vital Records.
Marriage Records:
Marriage records from 1968 to the present are filed with the Tennessee Department of Health, Office of Vital Records. Marriages that occurred within the state before 1968 can be found in the Tennessee State Library and Archives, with the exception Davidson County marriage records for May 1941 – June 1945. These are available through the Metropolitan Archives of Nashville and Davidson County.

You’ll find a link to Governor Haslam’s website, links to district maps and voting results, and a list of all Tennessee Representatives which includes a link to their website, party, office room, phone number, and committee assignment.
