Rutherford County, Tennessee Overview

Rutherford County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. The county was formed in October 25, 1803. Named after Griffith Rutherford, the county seat is Murfreesboro and it has a population of 308,251 as of 2016. The county has a total area of 624 square miles, with its land area encompassing 619 square miles, and its water area 4.7 square miles. The county consists of 18 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 37130 recorded as the one with the largest population. Moreover, Rutherford County borders the following counties: Wilson County, Tennessee to the north; Bedford County, Tennessee to the south; Cannon County, Tennessee to the east; Williamson County, Tennessee to the west; Davidson County, Tennessee to the northwest; Marshall County, Tennessee to the southwest, and; Coffee County, Tennessee to the southeast.

Rutherford County Clerk Information

In addition to issuing license plate registrations, the county clerk issues business licenses, marriage licenses, county beer permits, notary public at large commissions and passports. The county clerk also handles conservatorships, guardianships and the probating of estates (wills). As clerk of the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners, the County Clerk also keeps official minutes and records of the activities of the commission and the Rutherford County Beer Board.
