Socorro County is located in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The county was formed in 1852 and named after Spanish term meaning “aid,” which refers to the help Native Americans gave to starving travelers. The county seat is Socorro. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 17,027 people. Socorro County borders the following counties: Cibola County to the northwest; Valencia County to the north; Torrance County to the northeast; Lincoln County to the east; Sierra County to the south and Catron County to the west. Socorro County Assessor’s Office Information

The Socorro County Assessor’s Office determines the property value of homes, businesses and other taxable properties within the county for ad valorem tax purposes. Normally, property in New Mexico is classified as residential or non-residential and is taxed at different rates. Socorro County Clerk’s Office Information

The Clerk is the custodian of records for Socorro County. The Clerk’s Office records, files and maintains all official public records of the County, such as resolutions, ordinances, deeds, mortgages and marriage licenses for marriages within Socorro County. The Clerk also serves as the chief administrator of elections. The Clerk’s office receives nominations and petitions of candidates related to elections.
