Sheridan County is located in the northeastern region of Wyoming. The county seat is also called Sheridan. The county was formed in 1888 from a portion of Johnson County by the legislature of the Wyoming Territory. It was named in honor of a general during the American Civil War, Philip Sheridan. The total area of the county measures 2,527 square miles with an estimated population of 30,200. The adjacent counties are Big Horn County (MT) in the north, Powder River County (MT) in the northeast, Campbell County in the east, Johnson County in the south, and Big Horn County (WY) in the west.
