Platte County is located in Southeastern Wyoming. Wheatland is the county seat. The county was founded in 1911 from a portion of Laramie County and later organized in 1913. It was named after the North Platte River which passes through the county. The total area of the county is 2,111 square miles. Based on the 2016 census, approximately 8,680 people are living here. The adjacent counties are Niobrara County in the northeast, Goshen County in the east, Laramie County in the south, Albany County in the west, and Converse County in the northwest.
