Converse County is located in Central Wyoming. Douglas serves as the county seat. The county was established in 1888, created from portions of Albany and Laramie Counties. It was named in honor of a banker and rancher from Cheyenne, Wyoming who owned a large range in the eastern portion of the county, A.R. Converse. The county’s total area measures 4,265 square miles.
