Door County, Wisconsin Overview

Door County is located in the northeastern region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is Sturgeon Bay. The county was formed in 1851 and named after the passage between the tip of Door County Peninsula and Washington Island which is called “Death’s Door” or “Porte des Morts.” The county’s total area is 2,370 square miles and the population is 27,785 (2010). The county is bordered in the north by Delta County (MI), in the east Leelanau County (MI), in the southeast by Benzie County (MI), in the south by Kewaunee County, in the southwest by Oconto County, in the west by Marinette County, and in the northwest by Menominee County. Door County Officials Information

The County Clerk acts as secretary to the County Board. His or her duties include creating agendas for all County Board committees, keeping a record of true minutes of all the board proceedings, and making entries of its resolutions and ordinances. The Clerk also acts as a DMV Issuing Agent, issues marriage licenses, compiles and publishes the Official County Directory, provides dog licenses, issues County Timer Cutting Notices, and is in charge of the county Mailroom.
