Venango County is located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The county was formed in 1800 and named after corruption of the Delaware word onenge, which means “otter”. The county seat is Franklin. The Prothonotary is also known as the chief clerk and record keeper for civil proceedings. The duties include:

    Venango County Register and Recorder’s Office Information

    The Register of Wills is responsible for probating wills and granting Letter of Administration. The Register is also responsible for and has jurisdiction over records of wills, inventories, inheritance tax documents and any other miscellaneous documents filed. The Register of Wills also serves as the agent for the Commonwealth for the collection of inheritance tax.
