Greene County is located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. The county was formed in 1796 and named after Nathanael Greene, Revolutionary War general. The county seat is Waynesburg. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 37,519people. Greene County Clerk of Courts Office Information

The Clerk of Courts’ Office is responsible for the criminal, juvenile and orphans’ divisions of the Court of Common Pleas. The criminal court handles all criminal cases, the Accelerated Rehabilitation Program and juvenile records. The orphans’ court processes records related to births, deaths, marriages, divorces, adoptions, guardianship for incapacitated people and estate settlement. The Clerk of Courts Office also collects court fines, costs and restitutions. During court sessions, the Clerk of Courts takes all the pertinent files for each defendant to the courtroom. The Clerk of Courts also swears in witnesses. The Clerk of Court’s Office issues marriage license.

Greene County Register and Recorder’s Office Information

The Register and Recorder’s Office is the repository and record manager for all kinds of documents related to real estate transactions, wills and estates. Wills and real estate transactions documents are considered permanent records of Greene County and these documents must be protected from loss, theft or damage. It is also the responsibility of the office to provide efficient and timely service to the public while preserving the integrity of public records. The Recorder of Deeds division records all documents pertaining to land and property transactions, including deeds, mortgages, leases, liens, surveys, financing statements and rights of way. The Register of Wills division is responsible for filing all papers in reference to the probate of wills and estates and all other related documents. This office also offers help with probate estates and filing and collecting Pennsylvania inheritance tax.

The Greene County Register and Recorder’s Office also keeps records of oaths of office for all county elected officials, notary publics, district justices, military discharges, mine subsidence maps and highway maps. Copies of all documents are maintained and preserved for public use. Lawyers, title searchers, loan officers and genealogists are among the frequent users of these records, which date back to 1796.

To assist customers in finding relevant documents, the Recorder’s Office creates a searchable index that contains the names of all parties to a document and the property address. To access and view a document, customers must first register/subscribe. A small fee will be charged to access the online service prior to accessing any records.
