Ward County is located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county was formed in 1888 and named after Dakota territorial legislator Mark Ward. The county seat is Minot. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 70,210 people. Ward County borders the following counties: Renville County to the north; McHenry County to the east; McLean County to the south; Mountrail County to the west and Burke County to the northwest. The Recorder’s Office is responsible for filing and recording documents that pertain to personal real property. This office is also required to maintain a permanent record of documents which can include but is not limited to: deeds, mortgages, leases, easements, plats, crop liens, and a variety of other miscellaneous instruments. The Recorder’s Office also records military discharges. Other duties of the County Recorder include maintaining non-judicial records, issuing marriage licenses, and officiating civil marriage ceremonies.

Most documents at the Recorder’s Office are public. The cost for a certified copy is $5 for the first page and $2 for any additional pages, for example a five-page mortgage document would cost $13.
