Renville County, North Dakota Overview
Renville County is located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county was formed in 1873 and named after Joseph Renville, missionary and interpreter for Dakota Native Americans. The county seat is Mohall. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 2,550 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 893 square miles of which 877 square miles is land and 16 square miles is water. Renville County borders the following counties and rural municipalities: Mount Pleasant No. 2, Saskatchewan to the north; Argyle No. 1, Saskatchewan to the north; Bottineau County to the east; McHenry County to the southeast; Ward County to the south and Burke County to the Northwest.Renville County has nine zip codes. Renville County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information
County Recorder officers are elected to four-year terms which begin January 1. The County Recorder is also called as the “Land Record Manager.” As the Land Record Officer, the County Recorder keeps a record of each patent, deed, mortgage, bill of sale and any document related to these transactions, insuring a permanent record of property ownership and accurate account of financial responsibilities.
The County Recorder’s Office works with a wide and varied customer base. These customers use the filed and recorded information to document legal instruments, create and/or extend abstracts, conduct land appraisals, locate property lines, draw plats, search ancestry, historical data, heirships, mineral leases, courtroom testimony, UCC/CNS and many other interests.
Other duties of the County Recorder Include:
- Keep a record of each patent, deed, mortgage, bill of sale, security agreement, judgement, decree, lien, certificate of sale and other instrument.
- Label each instrument filed for record or otherwise the date, hour, minute of the day of such filing and state the number or letter designating the book of records in which the record of the instrument is made and the page upon which it is recorded.
- Prepare a UCC abstract whenever any person requests it and pays the required fee.
- Furnish upon request (written or by telephone) to person’s information contained in financing statements to perfect a security interest pursuant to chapter 41-09 when the collateral is farm products, and provide written confirmation of the oral information provided upon receipt of a fee which shall be the same as for recording that instrument.
