Burleigh County, North Dakota Overview
Burleigh County is located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county was formed in 1873 and named after Walter A. Burleigh (1820–1896), territorial delegate to Congress. The county seat is Bismarck. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2018, the county has a population of approximately 81,308 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,668 square miles, of which 1,633 square miles is land and 36 square miles is water. Burleigh County borders the following counties: Sheridan County to the north; Kidder County to the east; Emmons County to the south; Morton County to the southwest; Oliver County to the west; and McLean County to the northwest. Burleigh County Recorder’s Office Information
The County Recorder is responsible for filing and recording documents that pertain to personal and real property. The office is also charged to maintain a permanent record of documents which can include, but is not limited to: deeds, mortgages, leases, easements, plats, crop liens, state and federal tax liens, and a variety of other miscellaneous instruments. Other duties include maintaining non-judicial records, serve as a passport acceptance facility, and issue marriage licenses. In addition, the County Recorder may officiate civil marriage ceremonies.
