Steele County is located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county was formed in 1883 and named after Edward H. Steele, secretary-treasurer of the Red River Land Company. The county seat is Finley. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 1,962 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 715 square miles of which 712 square miles is land and 3.2 square miles is water. Steele County borders the following counties: Grand Forks County to the north; Traill County to the east; Cass County to the southeast; Barnes County to the southwest; Griggs County to the west and Nelson County to the northeast.Steele County has 11 zip codes. Steele County Clerk of Court/Recording’s Office Information

In Steele County, the Recording’s Office is combined with the position of the Clerk of Court. The primary administrative duties of the Clerk of Court include: maintenance of criminal and civil case records, updating the court docket and processing judgments.
