Stark County is located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county was formed in 1879 and named after George Stark, a vice president of the Northern Pacific Railroad. The county seat is Dickinson. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 31,199 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,340 square miles of which 1,335 square miles is land and 5.5 square miles is water. Stark County borders the following counties: Dunn County to the north/CST Border in the north part of the county; Mercer County to the northeast/CST Border; Morton County to the east/CST Border; Grant County to the southeast/CST Border; Hettinger County to the south; Slope County to the southwest and Billings County to the west.
