Pierce County, North Dakota Overview

Pierce County is located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. The county was formed in 1887 and named after Gilbert Ashville Pierce, a Governor of Dakota Territory and later a U.S. Senator from North Dakota. The county seat is Rugby. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2018, the county has a population of approximately 4,357 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,082 square miles, of which 1,019 square miles is land and 64 square miles is water. Pierce County borders the following counties: Rolette County (north; Towner County to the northeast; Benson County to the east; Wells County to the southeast; Sheridan County to the southwest; McHenry County to the west; and Bottineau County to the northwest.
