Granville County can be found in the north central region of North Carolina. Oxford is the county seat. The county was created from a portion of Edgecombe County in 1746. It as named in honor of the 2nd Earl of Granville, John Carteret, who was the heir of one of the eight original Lords of Proprietors of the Province of Carolina.
