Franklin County, New York
Franklin County is located in the state of New York. The county was formed in 1808 from portions of Clinton County. It is named after an American Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin. Malone is the largest town in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 51,599 people and a total area of 1,697 square miles, of which 68 square miles is water and 1,629 square miles is land, making it the fourth-largest county in New York by land area. Franklin County borders the following counties and municipality: Clinton County to the east; Essex County to the southeast; Hamilton County to the southwest; St. Lawrence County to the west; Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry United Counties, Ontario, to the northwest; and Le Haut-Saint-Laurent Regional County Municipality, Quebec, to the north.
The Franklin County Clerk serves as the custodian for documents related to real estate in Franklin County.
