Mora County Magistrates Court Office Information

The function of the Magistrate Court is to handle traffic citations and misdemeanor offenses and civil claims for money up to $10,000. The Magistrates Court handles cases that would be handled by Small Claims court in other states. Felony offenses receive a preliminary hearing in Magistrate Court. The Magistrates Court also reviews the evidences of felony offenses and determines whether to reduce the charges to misdemeanor ones, or to leave them as felonies and bind them over to District Court.

Mora County Clerk’s Office Information

The County Clerk is responsible for keeping records and recording documents for the county. These records include deeds, mortgages, affidavits, survey plats, etc. The County Clerk is also responsible for registering voters and working elections. The County Clerk issues marriage licenses. The County Clerk serves as ex-officio clerk to the Mora County board of county commissioners and records all minutes of the meetings of the board. The Clerk’s Office publishes and files government documents such as ordinances and resolutions. The County Clerk acts as the Clerk to the Probate Court and is the custodian of all Probate Court records.
