Grant County is located in the U.S. state of New Mexico. The county was formed in 1868 and named after Ulysses Simpson Grant, the Civil War general and eighteenth president of the United States. The county seat is Silver City. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2016, the county has a population of approximately 28,280 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,968 square miles of which 3,962 square miles is land and 5.9 square miles is water. Grant County borders the following counties: Catron County to the north; Sierra County to the east; Luna County to the southeast; Hidalgo County to the south and Greenlee County, Arizona to the west. Grant County Clerk’s Office Information

As ex-officio clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, the County Clerk is responsible for the recording meetings and maintaining all minutes of the board. The County Clerk also acts as the custodian of the records of the County and maintains and stores these minutes and resolutions and ordinances passed. Grant County Document Search

The County Clerk is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages, military discharges, death certificates, and other real estate documents. Any legal document can be filed in the Clerk’s Office. Certified copies of documents may be purchased. The Clerk’s Office is the custodian of the records and files and records real estate subdivision maps and plats.

The County Clerk’s Office issues marriage licenses. All marriage license applications are permanently filed with the recording departments and preserved as marriage records.

The County Clerk is also the Chief Election Officer of the County and is responsible for the administration of voter registration and other election procedures. In addition, the Clerk’s Office issues business registrations to businesses, liquor licenses and provides the services of public notary at no charge to the public for business pertaining to county government only.
