Morris County Court System Information

Morris County Court System consists of Superior Court, Court Administrator, Jury Management, Law Library, Legal Aid, and Probation.

The County Superior Court Office administers all of the courts in Morris and Sussex vicinage. Supervises and manages all court matters filed and all judges and personnel having a judicial support function.

The Court Administrator is responsible for budget development and expenditures, supervision of judicial support personnel, program development and analysis, facilities and resource management. Jury Management issues and processes jurors’ summons, oversees daily arrival and assignment of jurors. The Law Library for the judiciary, prosecutors’ staff, attorneys and public.

Legal Aid provides legal advice and representation in such areas as custody, divorce, support, visitation, landlord/tenant, family, housing, income maintenance, contracts and collections to financially eligible county residents. Probation assists with social rehabilitation of individuals receiving a suspended or indeterminate sentence. The probation system is divided into juvenile, adult, child support sections, and family divisions.

Morris County Clerk’s Office Information

The Morris County Clerk is responsible for recording and maintenance every conveyance of real property such as deeds, mortgages, liens, maps and other related legal documents. The Clerk’s Office also acts as the passport application acceptance facility for the U.S. Department of State. This office also issues ID cards to Morris County seniors and veterans, record the military discharge records of veterans, administer the oath of office to all Notaries Public, and record the trade name certificates of all non-incorporated businesses. The County Clerk also officiates marriage ceremonies.

In addition, this office administers several important election functions including the preparation and mailing of all mail-in and sample ballots, the acceptance of nominating petitions, the design and preparation of voting machine ballot layouts and the tallying of election results.
