Johnson County can be found in the southeastern region of Nebraska. Tecumseh is the county seat. Founded in 1855, the county was named in honor of Richard M. Johnson, the 9th US Vice President. The county was later organized in 1857. According to the 2010 census, 5,217 people reside in the 377-square mile area of county. The counties bordering the area are Otoe County in the north, Nemaha County in the east, Pawnee County in the south, Gage County in the west, and Lancaster County in the northwest. The County Clerk is tasked with attending all the meetings of the Board of Commissioners and the County Board of Equalization. He or she must also record the proceedings of the board and countersign warrants issued by the same.
