Sabine Parish, Louisiana Overview

Sabine Parish is located in the west central part of Louisiana in the Crossroads region. The Parish of Sabine is land-locked and covers 1,012 square miles of which 145 square miles are water. It is named after the Sabine River and the “Sabine Free State” that was a demilitarized zone between the United States purchase of Louisiana and the Mexican settlements in modern day Texas. It is bordered by De Soto Parish to the north, Natchitoches Parish to the east, Vernon Parish to the southeast, Newton Parish, Texas to the southwest, Sabine Parish, Texas to the west, and Shelby Parish, Texas to the northwest. The Parish Clerk for Sabine Parish is responsible for personal protection orders, circuit court and family court filings, vital records, assumed names, military discharges, concealed weapons permits, notary public information, election results and voter registration. While this information is not considered public record it can be requested in person from the Clerk. Those who are named in the documents are able to make a request and there is a cost involved.
