Lawrence County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1821 and named after James Lawrence, a naval commander during the War of 1812. The county seat is Louisa. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 15,856 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 420 square miles of which 416 square miles is land and 4.5 square miles is water. Lawrence County borders the following counties: Carter County to the northwest; Boyd County to the north; Wayne County, West Virginia to the east; Martin County to the southeast; Johnson County to the south; Morgan County to the southwest and Elliott County to the west. Lawrence County Clerk’s Office Information

The Lawrence County Clerk’s Office is responsible for issuing motor and boat licenses, license plates, fishing and hunting licenses, marriage licenses, recording land and legal documents, and collecting delinquent taxes. The Clerk also issues notary public certifications, registers voters and holds all elections within the county. The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for issuing birth/death certificates, and processing passport applications.
