Lawrence County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1821 and named after James Lawrence, a naval commander during the War of 1812. The county seat is Louisa. The Lawrence County Clerk’s Office is responsible for issuing motor and boat licenses, license plates, fishing and hunting licenses, marriage licenses, recording land and legal documents, and collecting delinquent taxes. The Clerk also issues notary public certifications, registers voters and holds all elections within the county. The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for issuing birth/death certificates, and processing passport applications.
