Knox County, Kentucky Overview

Knox County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1799 and named after Henry Knox, the former United States Secretary of War (1785–94). The county seat is Barbourville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 31,790 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 388 square miles of which 386 square miles is land and 1.5 square miles is water. Knox County borders the following counties: Clay County to the northeast; Bell County to the southeast; Whitley County to the southwest and Laurel County to the northwest. Knox County Clerk’s Office Information

Knox County Clerk’s Office is responsible for vehicles licenses, recording land and legal documents, issuing marriage licenses, notary public bonds, fishing and hunting licenses, and collecting delinquent taxes. The Clerk registers voters, holds elections, and performs other duties pertaining to elections. The Knox County Land Records department is responsible for recording legal documents according to the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
