Sarasota County, Florida

Sarasota County is located in the state of Florida; it was created on May 14, 1921. North Port is the largest city in the county, while the county seat is Sarasota. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 379,448 people and a total area of 725 square miles, of which 169 square miles is water and 556 square miles is land. Sarasota County borders the following counties:  Manatee County to the north, DeSoto County to the east and Charlotte County to the south.

Karen E. Rushing is the Sarasota County’s elected Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller as of 2015. Her office is charged with the following responsibilities: processing tax deed applications and conducting sales; recording and indexing deeds, mortgages and descriptions of all county property; recording all tax liens and claims against estates; instruments of conveyance; agreements; satisfactions; certificates of discharge from military service; contracts; maps and plats of subdivisions and surveys; and maintaining public microfilm libraries and a records storage facility.

Sarasota County Marriage License Office
In order to obtain a marriage license in Sarasota County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
