Bay County, Florida

Bay County is located in the Florida Panhandle on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The county seat is Panama City. The area is widely known for while sand beaches, crystal water, and a year-round population of dolphins. Tourism is the basis for the county economy. The total area is 1,033 square miles. As of the 2010 census, the population was 168,852.

The Bay County Clerk of the Circuit Court is the county recorder; the Clerk of the Circuit Court is the official recorder of all instruments that are authorized by law to be recorded in Bay County. All instruments/documents are recorded in one general series of books called “Official Records.” Records maintained by the Clerk of the Circuit Court include, but are not limited to: mortgages; satisfactions of mortgage; any instrument relating to ownership, transfer, or encumbrance of real property; tax warrants; notices of claims of liens; deeds; leases; and agreements. In addition, documents originating within the Clerk’s Office, such as bonds, administrative orders, judgments, motions, and dismissals, are also recorded.

A general alphabetical index of all instruments/documents filed for record is maintained and can be accessed by the public. Public records can be obtained by doing a background check online or by visiting the Clerk of the Circuit Court’s office in person. To do a public records search online, you will have to visit the Bay County Clerk of the Circuit Court Website. The website will allow you to search the entire Bay County Official Records database for land records and other public documents recorded after January 1, 1987. The search will return a list of Parties, the Book type, the Book/Page, the type of document that was recorded, the date the document was recorded, and Clerk Instrument Number of the document. It is important to note that copies of records on the website are not official legal documents.

To obtain copies of official legal documents, you will have to visit the Clerk’s Official Records Department. Alternatively, you can contact the Official Records Division of the Clerk’s Office by email (webbaycoclerk@baycoclerk.com) or by phone through (850)763-9061 and request copies to be mailed at a cost of $1.00 per page and $2.00 for certifications.
