Alachua County is located in north central Florida. The county seat is Gainesville, home to the University of Florida. The county was founded in 1824. Newnansville was the county seat until 1854, when the railroad bypassed it. As of the 2010 census, the population was 247,336.
The Alachua County Clerk of the Court is the County Recorder. Records maintained by the clerk include but are not limited to copies of deeds, mortgages, and other instruments. Official records of Alachua County can be obtained by doing a background check online, by visiting the county clerk’s office in person or by mail.
To do a public records search online, you will have to visit the Alachua County Clerk Website. The website has easy to follow steps and links that will direct you to the records that are available online. The website also has the fee schedule applicable when requesting public records; although you will not be charged to look at public records, you will be charged a fee of $1 per page to obtain copies. The Clerk of the Court does not warrant the accuracy of records obtained through the website; it is the duty of the user to assess the accuracy of records obtained.
You can also obtain copies of deeds, mortgages, court records and much more by visiting the Clerk of the Court’s offices in person. Copies of records are on file in the official records of Alachua County in the Recording Office; you will be required to download and fill out the records request form from the county website. While filling out the form, remember to be precise since the fee payable will not be refunded if the records you request cannot be obtained. In addition, you can also call the Clerk of the Court at (352) 374-3636. Though you will not be able to obtain records by phone, it is a sure way to make enquiries regarding public records.
