Sauk County is located in the South Central region of Wisconsin. Baraboo serves as the county seat. The county was created in 1844 and named after a village of the Sauk people, a Native America tribe, which used to be located within its borders. The county’s total area is 849 square miles. According to the 2010 census, there are 61,976 people living in the area. The adjacent counties are Juneau County in the north, Columbia County in the east, Dane County in the southeast, Iowa County in the south, Richland County in the west, and Vernon County in the northwest.
