Lincoln County, Wisconsin Overview

Lincoln County is located in the northern region of Wisconsin. Its county seat is Merrill. The county was established in 1875 and named in honor of the 16th US President, Abraham Lincoln. The county has a total area of 907 square miles and a population of 28,743 (2010). The adjacent counties are Oneida County in the north, Langlade County in the east, Marathon County in the south, Taylor County in the southwest, and Price County in the northwest. Lincoln County Officials Information

The County Clerk performs administrative and clerical functions for the County Board of Supervisors. The Clerk attends and records all County Board and Committee meetings as well as publishes the meetings’ agendas and minutes. In addition, the Clerk issues marriage licenses, handles the tax deed process, issues Notice to Cut Timber permits, issues temporary motor vehicle licenses, issues worker permits, and manages the property/liability/auto/boiler insurances and employee bonds. Other duties of the County Clerk include overseeing the operation and allocation of the County postage meter, managing the Facilities Usage Agreements, maintaining the County Directory, distributes the dog tags for the city and town treasurers, and manages the budget of the County.
