Open Public Record Act:
Wisconsin’s Public Records Law provides the individuals access to public records of government agencies within the state. The Open Meetings Law allows citizens to observe meetings of government agencies that conduct public business. The state’s Department of Justice provides resources such as compliance guides to educate government agencies on how to follow these laws.
Birth Records:
All births that occurred in the state of Wisconsin from 1907 to present are available at the State Vital Records Office as well as any county Register of Deeds office, the Milwaukee City Health Office, and the West Allis City Health Office. Copies of birth records can be obtained in person or by mail. You will need to complete an application form and provide acceptable identification such as a state-issued driver’s license or ID card or a US/foreign passport. The cost is $20 for the first copy and $3 for each additional copy of the same record. You can also order a copy online through a third party vendor, VitalChek.
Marriage Records:
All marriages that occurred in the state of Wisconsin are available at the State Vital Records Office. Copies of marriage records can be obtained in person or by mail through this office. Marriage records from June 2015 to present are also available at any county Register of Deeds office. For marriage records that do not fall within this time frame, you may obtain copies from the Register of Deeds office in the county where the marriage took place.

Death records that do not fall within the dates mentioned above are maintained by the Register of Deeds office in the county where the event occurred.

The official state website of Wisconsin provides information on the elected officials of the state. It features a web application that allows you to learn which elected official is serving your area. For example, Senator Thomas Tiffany serves District 12.
