Iredell County is located in the northwestern region of North Carolina. Statesville is the county seat. Iredell County was created in 1788 from a portion of Rowan County. It was named in honor of a Supreme Court Justice, James Iredell. The total area of the county is 597 square miles. The population is 159,437 according to the 2010 census. The county is bordered in the north by Yadkin County and Wilkes County, in the east by Davie County and Rowan County, in the south by Mecklenburg County, in the southwest by Lincoln County, in the west by Alexander County and Catawba County.
