Cumberland County, North Carolina Overview

Cumberland County can be found in the south central region of North Carolina. Fayetteville serves as its county seat. In 1754, a portion of Bladen County was used to create Cumberland County. It was named thusly in honor of the Duke of Cumberland, Prince William Augustus who was a victorious commander at the Battle of Culloden. The total area of the county is 658 square miles. According to the 2016 census, it has approximately 327,127 people residents which makes it the fifth most populated county in the state. The county is bordered in the north by Harnett County, in the east by Sampson County, in the south by Bladen County, in the southwest by Robeson County, in the west by Hoke County, and Moore County in the northwest.
