Open Public Record Act:

The New Hampshire Right to Know Law grants citizens the right to access all public records of state and local governmental bodies. Public records are defined as any information that was created, received, or obtained by a public body. Certain records are exempted such as Grand and Petit Jury Records, Parole and Pardon Board Records, Sealed Minutes, Personal School Records of Pupils, and records that contain financial or commercial information.

Birth Records:

New Hampshire’s Division of Vital Records Administration provides access to statistical data derived from records of birth, deaths, marriage, and divorce online through the “New Hampshire Vital Records Information Network web”.

You can also obtain certified copies of birth certificates from this office provided that you can prove a “direct and tangible” interest in obtaining a record. If you are eligible, you will need to complete an application form and send it to the DVRA along with a copy of a valid government-issued photo ID and the current fee. The cost of the first copy is $15 and each additional copy is $10.

Marriage Records:

The New Hampshire Division of Vital Records Administration issues certified copies of marriage certificates. You will need to provide positive identification and prove a “direct and tangible interest” in the record. You can also submit a request by mail. You will need to complete an application and submit it with a copy of your identification and the fee.

Divorce Records:

The New Hampshire Division of Vital Records Administration issues certified copies of divorce records. You will need to provide positive identification and prove a “direct and tangible interest” in the record. You can also submit a request by mail. You will need to complete an application and submit it with a copy of your identification and the fee.

Death Records:

The Division of Vital Records Administration (DVRA) issues certified copies of death certificates. Only certain individuals are qualified to obtain a copy of this record. You will need to provide a “direct and tangible” interest as well as positive identification such as your driver’s license or passport. Requests can be submitted by mail. Make sure to submit a completed application form as well as the payment for the fee. The cost of a copy is $15 and each additional copy is $10.

Missing People:

The Major Crime Unit of the New Hampshire State Police posts reports of missing person cases that they handle on their website. You can check each of the missing person posters. The website also lists the contact information of the State Police if you have information to impart regarding any of the persons listed on the site.

Elected Officials:

The state official website of New Hampshire lists all the elected officials in the state such as the Governor, who’s currently Christopher T. Sununu. The site also provides you with links to different government websites such as the General Court’s website and the Congress website. It even links you to a web application that will help you locate the legislators serving your area.
