Elko County, Nevada Overview

Elko County is located in the U.S. state of Nevada. The county was formed in 1869 and named after Shoshoni word meaning white woman. It is said, among the very old Shoshoni, that this is where they first saw a white woman. The county seat is Elko. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2014, the county has a population of approximately 52,766 people. Elko County District Courts Office Information

The Elko County District Court has general jurisdiction over all legal disputes. This is the court where criminal, civil, family, and juvenile matters are generally resolved through arbitration, mediation, and bench or jury trials. The judges also hear appeals from Justice Court cases. The Justice Court handles:

  • Misdemeanor crime and traffic matters
  • Other civil matters less than $10,000
  • Small claims dispute
