Sanders County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. The county was formed in 1905 and named after Wilbur Fiske Sanders (1834-1905), a pioneer, vigilante, and U.S. Senator from Montana. The county seat is Thompson Falls. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2015, the county has a population of approximately 11,336 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,790 square miles of which 2,761 square miles is land and 29 square miles is water. Sanders County borders the following counties: Lincoln County, Montana to the north; Flathead County, Montana to the northeast; Lake County, Montana to the east; Missoula County, Montana to the southeast; Mineral County, Montana to the south; Shoshone County, Idaho to the west/Pacific Time Border and Bonner County, Idaho to the northwest/Pacific Time Border. Sanders County Clerk of District Courts Office Information

The Clerk of District Court is the official keeper of all District Court records for Sanders County. These records include adoption, civil, criminal, dependent neglect, domestic relations, guardianship, juvenile, paternity, probate and sanity cases. The Clerk also issues, files and records all Sanders County marriage license applications and licenses. The Clerk of District Court also serves as Jury Commissioner for Sanders County. As required by statute, each May the Secretary of State provides a combined list of registered voters, licensed drivers and holders of Montana ID cards to the Clerk of District Court. This list is stored and maintained electronically and it is from this list that jurors are pulled for the City, Justice and District Court Judges. It is the Clerk’s duty to maintain an accurate listing of all selected jurors and to pull individual jury panels for the District Court Judges upon request. Passport applications and renewals are also carried out in this office.

Sanders County Clerk and Recorder’s Office Information

The Clerk and Recorder’s Office is the official records center for Sanders County. Responsibilities of the Clerk and Recorder include but are not limited to, recording and maintaining the legal documents relating to real estate records, land descriptions, plats and surveys, county birth and death records and the records of the Board of County Commissioners.
