Sibley County is located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The county was formed in 1853 and named after Henry Hastings Sibley, the first governor of Minnesota (1858-1860). The county seat is Gaylord. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 15,072 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has an area of 601 square miles of which 589 square miles is land and 12 square miles is water. Sibley County borders the following counties: McLeod County to the north; Carver County to the northeast; Scott County to the east; Le Sueur County to the southeast; Nicollet County to the south and Renville County to the west. Sibley County Recorder’s Office Information

The Sibley County Recorder is the custodian of all legal records pertaining to real estate in the county. The Recorder’s Office is responsible for all the real estate records for properties located in Sibley County. Permanent records of deeds, mortgages and other various real estate records are recorded and filed in this office. All documents are examined to ensure they contain the required information. The Recorder’s Office also protects and issues certified copies of Birth and Death Records. The Sibley County Recorder is also the abstractor for the county. The Recorder creates new abstracts as well as continuing existing abstracts. The County Recorder is also the Registrar of Titles. Oaths of Office, land plats, Federal and State Tax Liens are filed in the Recorder’s Office. Other records maintained at the Recorder’s Office include military discharges, vital statistics of birth, death, and marriages, bond oaths and appointments of county officials.
