Located near the center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, Mecosta County has only 16 square miles of water in 571 square miles of area. It is bordered to the north by Osceola County, the east by Isabella County, the south by Montcalm County and the west by Newaygo County. Approximately 43,108 people lived in Mecosta County at the time of the 2013 census. The County Clerk for Mecosta County is responsible for all marriage, birth and death records, as well as personal protection orders, military discharges, concealed weapons permits, circuit and family court filings and fees, assumed names, notary public documents and divorce decrees. Many of the documents related to vital records can be purchased and viewed online, for a processing fee of $12.95 and a general fee of $10. Additional information about fee schedules is available online and records can be retrieved in person, from the office, but is not available online.
The Register of Deeds keeps track of all information related to real estate records. These including warranty and quit claim deeds, mortgages, oil and gas leases and liens on property. These are considered public record and can be requested directly from the Register of Deeds but are not available online, aside from land records and index data. Other information is available for a fee.

The equalization department of Mecosta County is responsible for determining the real, taxable value of all properties within the county.
