Located at the very top of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, Cheboygan County consists of only 885 square miles, of which only 19% (170 square miles) are water. The County Clerk is also the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners, Clerk of the Board of Canvassers, Clerk of the Gun Board, Clerk of the Tax Allocation Board, Clerk and Member of the Plat Board, Receiver of Assumed Names and Military Discharges, Member of the Apportionment Committee and the County Election Commission and Chief Election Officer. She keeps record of all birth and death records as well as marriage licenses, concealed weapon permits, voter registration records and notary public records.
As the Register of Deeds, she is also responsible for official records related to real property and pertaining to real property. These include warranty deeds, wills, mortgages, divorces and quit claim deeds. Any records desired from the County Clerk or Register of Deeds must be requested in person, during normal business hours. These documents are not available online, however the fee schedules and requirements for many of them, such as marriage applications, divorce and concealed pistol licenses, are available online.

The Equalization Department for the County of Charlevoix is responsible for proper equalization values of all property owned and operated within the county.

This office corrects any inequities and performs annual sales and appraisal studies for different classifications of property. Current property owners and tax parcel maps are available from this office and can be requested via in person request during normal business hours. There are some documents, such as yearly equalization reports, millage reduction computations and apportionment reports that are available online, as well as several forms that can be submitted to the office for more information.
