Antrim County, Michigan Overview

Antrim County is a smaller county located in the northwest section of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. Home to the oldest American summer camp that still sits on its original site, it is only about 602 square miles in size. There are approximately 126 square miles of water and coastline to the county and according to the 2013 census you’ll find approximately 23,370 people living there. At the County Clerk’s office you can get birth certificates, death certificates, marriage licenses, assumed name certificates, notary public bonds, concealed weapons permits and military discharge orders, as well as election records. All financial record keeping for the circuit court, county payroll and benefits and personnel files are all stored with the County Clerk as well.

The Register of Deeds is responsible for the recording of all legal documents that relate to transfer or encumbrances of property within the county, including warranty deeds, tax and sheriff deeds, quit claim deeds, administrator deeds, mortgages, probate orders and all other property related documents. These records are public record and therefore may be requested, reviewed and copied by anyone.

The Assessment Department of Antrim County is known as the Equalization Department and maintains information related to assessments of property and maintenance of property descriptions, valuation of properties and development and use of techniques for assessment.

Court records are available with the 86th District Court where you can search court cases and the court docket or pay fines and fees. Documents are also available on the website or anything can be requested in person at the Antrim County Courthouse. In order to obtain a marriage license in Antrim County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
