Located in the Northeastern Lower Peninsula of Michigan, Alcona consists of a total of 695 square miles, with 70% of the area covered in forest. At the county clerk’s office you’ll find public records and be able to find birth and death records as well as a number of other legal records such as marriage licenses, partnership certificates, assumed business names, veterans discharge records, concealed weapons permits and notary commissions. The county clerk also takes care of processing all passport applications in the county. She is responsible for all marriage license applications and serves as a notary public as well. Requests for records can be made in person or by mail. If you apply by mail you need to fill out an application and mail it along with a payment to the county clerk.

The register of deeds for Alcona County is responsible for official recording of any and all legal papers and documents that are in any way related to transfers or encumbrances for land and property within the county.
