Lewis County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1806 and named after Meriwether Lewis, an explorer. The county seat is Vanceburg. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 13,806 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 495 square miles of which 483 square miles is land and 13 square miles is water. Lewis County borders the following counties: Adams County, Ohio to the north; Scioto County, Ohio to the northeast; Greenup County to the east; Carter County to the southeast; Rowan County to the south; Fleming County to the southwest and Mason County to the west.
