Greenup County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1803 and named after Christopher Greenup, who was the third Governor of Kentucky. The county seat is Greenup. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 36,519 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 354 square miles of which 344 square miles is land and 10 square miles is water. Greenup County borders the following counties: Boyd County to the southeast; Carter County to the southwest; Lewis County to the west; Scioto County, Ohio to the north and Lawrence County, Ohio to the east. The Greenup County Clerk’s is responsible for vehicle titling, registration, issuing boat licenses, and collecting various taxes and fees associated with vehicles. The Clerk also issues drivers licenses, marriage licenses, hunting/fishing licenses, issues notary bonds and certificates, and collects delinquent taxes. The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for voter registration, absentee ballots, announcing election results, fixing polling stations, holding elections, etc. The Clerk also records and maintains various land and legal documents which include deeds, condominiums, corporate records, fixture and other UCC filings, land records fees, land use restrictions, liens, mortgages, plats, releases, and wills.
