Edmonson County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1825 and named after John Edmonson (1764–1813), military captain killed at the Battle of Frenchtown. The county seat is Brownsville. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 12,062 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 308 square miles of which 303 square miles is land and 5.1 square miles is water. Edmonson County borders the following counties: Grayson County to the north; Hart County to the east; Barren County to the southeast; Warren County to the southwest and Butler County to the west.
