Anderson County, Kentucky Overview

Anderson County is located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1827 and named after Richard Clough Anderson, Jr. Kentucky and United States legislator (1817–21). The county seat is Lawrenceburg. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 21,811 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 204 square miles of which 202 square miles is land and 2.4 square miles is water. Anderson County borders the following counties: Franklin County to the north; Woodford County to the east; Mercer County to the southeast; Washington County to the south; Nelson County to the southwest; Spencer County to the west and Shelby County to the northwest. Anderson County has four zip codes. The zip codes are 40342, 40046, 40372 and 40076. The most populated zip code is 40342.

Anderson County Clerk’s Office Information

The Anderson County Clerk’s Office is responsible for issuing vehicle, trailers and boat licenses, marriage licenses and notary bonds. The Clerk’s Office is also responsible for maintaining all public records pertaining to the county such as records of deeds, mortgages, wills, title lien statements for vehicles, etc. The Clerk’s Office is also in charge of voter registration and is responsible for conducting all elections in the county. The Clerk also collects delinquent taxes which are referred from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Department in April of each year. The Clerk’s also conducts the Delinquent tax sales in the summer.
