Sedgwick County, Kansas Overview
Sedgwick County is a county located in the state of Kansas. The county was formed in February 26, 1867. Named after John Sedgwick, the county seat is Wichita and it has a population of 505415 as of 2013. The county has a total area of 1009 square miles, with its land area encompassing 998 square miles, and its water area 12 square miles. The county consists of 50 ZIP codes, with ZIP code 67212 recorded as the one with the largest population. Moreover, Sedgwick County borders the following counties: Harvey County, Kansas to the north; Sumner County, Kansas to the south; Butler County, Kansas to the east; Kingman County, Kansas to the west; Reno County, Kansas to the northwest, and; Cowley County, Kansas to the southeast.
Sedgwick County Clerk Information
The County Clerk serves as the official secretary for the Board of the County Commissioners. The clerk records county commission meeting minutes and produces written minutes of all commission meetings. The clerk also has various duties relating to property tax levies and tax roll preparation; all school districts, cities, townships and other taxing authorities must file their budgets with the clerk. All land records of the county are also maintained by the clerk and each transfer of real estate is properly recorded in the transfer record for taxation purposes.

Register of Deeds
The register of deeds is responsible for recording all transactions relating to real estate in Sedgwick County. This includes deeds, mortgages, oil and gas leases and platted additions to all cities in Sedgwick County. The register of deeds also files financing statements and security agreements on personal property under the Uniform Commercial Code, federal and state tax liens, corporation papers, powers of attorney, county school records and military discharges.
