Open Public Record Act:
The Kansas Open Records Act allows individuals access to public records that are created, possessed, or maintained by government agencies in the state. However, certain records are not open to the public such as personnel files, medical records, criminal investigation records, and other records that invade personal privacy.
Birth Records:
Certified copies of birth certificates are available from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment Office of Vital Statistics. The cost of a certified birth certificate copy is $15. Only birth certificates that were filed with the office starting from July 1, 1911 are available.
To request a copy of a birth certificate, you can submit your request in person which will be made available to you within 15 to 20 minutes. Requests can also be made online through a third party vendor, VitalChek. The cost of a copy is $15 plus a $12.50 expedited fee. The processing time is 3 to 5 business days after receipt of request. You can also make a request via phone, by mail, or through the mobile app.
Marriage Records:
The Office of Vital Statistics issues certified copies of marriage certificates dating as far back as May 1, 1913. Requests for copies can be made in person or by mail. The cost for each certified copy is $15. You can also submit a request online through VitalChek, a third party vendor, or by phone. The cost is $15 per certified copy plus a $12.50 expedited service fee. There’s also a mobile app, IKAN, where you can request for certified copy. You will be required to pay an additional $5 processing fee.
Divorce Records:
Divorce certificates are available in the Office of Vital Statistics. These certificates only contain basic information such as the names of the parties involved, date of marriage, date of divorce, etc. Certified copies of divorce decrees are only available from the Clerk of the District Court in the county where the divorce was granted.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation maintains a webpage that provides resources for people seeking to find their loved ones. This page contains information and links to other websites such as the Kansas Amber Alert website and support groups such as Take Root. In addition, it provides links to clearinghouses such as NamUs or the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

The Kansas Government website provides you with information regarding your elected officials. You can use the website to learn more about the current governor, Jeff Colyer, MD and how to get in touch with him. You can also use it to locate Kansas legislators by name or by address.
