Switzerland County, Indiana Overview

Switzerland County is located in the U.S. state of Indiana. The county was formed in 1814 and named after the home country of many of the early settlers, Switzerland. The county seat is Vevay. According to the U.S. Census Bureau of 2013, the county has a population of approximately 10,526 people. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 223.44 square miles of which 220.63 square miles is land and 2.81 square miles is water. Switzerland County borders the following counties: Ohio County to the north; Boone County, Kentucky to the northeast; Gallatin County, Kentucky to the east; Carroll County, Kentucky to the south; Jefferson County to the west and Ripley County to the northwest. Switzerland County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office Information

The Circuit Court Clerk is a constitutional officer of the county. The Clerk serves as an ex-officio member and secretary of the county election board. The Clerk also serves as a member and clerk of the county board of canvassers. The Clerk of the Circuit Court is responsible for the County Elections. The Clerk also receives filings of candidacy from persons seeking certain elective public offices, issues certificates of election to successful local candidates.

The judicial responsibilities of the Circuit Court Clerk’s Office are maintaining all records of pleadings, motions, papers; evidence and court rulings of the court. The clerk issues summonses and subpoenas to witnesses ordering them to appear in court. The Clerk issues marriage licenses and keeps a record of all judgments, orders, and decrees of the court. Switzerland County Recorder’s Office Information

The Recorder is a constitutional officer. Their primary duty is to maintain permanent public records of documents such as mortgages, deeds, liens, military discharges, subdivisions plats, leases, public and private bonds, personal property, and powers of attorney.
