Troup County, Georgia

Troup County is located in the state of Georgia. The county’s boundaries were created on June 9, 1826, by the Georgia General Assembly, but they were not named until December 14, 1826. Troup County was named after George Troup, 34th governor of Georgia, U.S. representative, and senator. LaGrange is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to a census done by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2010, the county has a population of approximately 67,044 people and a total area of 446 square miles, of which 32 square miles is water and 414 square miles is land. Troup County borders the following counties: Coweta County to the northeast; Meriwether County to the east; Harris County to the south; Chambers County, Alabama, to the southwest; Randolph County, Alabama, to the northwest; and Heard County to the north.
