Named after George Washington, the county seat is Chipley and it has a population of 24624 as of 2013. The county has a total area of 616 square miles, with its land area encompassing 583 square miles, and its water area 33 square miles. The Office of the Clerk is a complex organization that performs a wide range of record keeping, information management, and financial management for the judicial system and county government.

The Clerk of Court allows searching of official records and court records, both hosted on different websites linked in the Clerk of Courts website. Official records include court judgments, deeds, liens, marriage licenses, mortgages, plats and tax deeds. They can be ordered online.
