Seminole County, Florida

Seminole County is located in the state of Florida. The county was formed on April 25, 1913, by the Florida Legislature out of part of the northern portion of Orange County. Seminole County was named after the Seminole people who historically lived throughout the area. Sanford is the largest city in the county and also the county seat. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a population of approximately 422,718 and a total area of 345 square miles, of which 36 square miles is water and 309 square miles is land. It is the fourth smallest county in Florida by land area and third smallest by total area. Seminole County borders the following counties: Volusia County to the northeast, Orange County to the south and west, and Lake County to the northwest.

The Seminole County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller is the official county recorder and handles all recorded documents in the county. Recorded documents maintained by the clerk include but are not limited to leases, real property mortgages, tax liens, military service discharges, marriage licenses, petitions of bankruptcy, and deeds, as well as documents from court cases and other sources. Public records in the county can be obtained by mail, by doing a background check online, or by visiting the county clerk’s office in person. In order to obtain a marriage license in Seminole County, the applicants must apply together, in person, at the County Clerk’s office. Both parties must present their state-issued picture ID, military ID, or passport, and know their social security number
